Instagram Monday

Fall is here and I couldn’t be happier, although it’s still warm in L.A., the morning have been cold, giving me hope that the days will start to get cold too. I love maxis sand sandals, but I’m ready to trade those in for scarves and boots.

Music+Inspiration Monday: 1-800-Penelope

Penelope’s Vintage is at it again, creating cool visuals to match their amazing selection of vintage items. I’ve been a fan of this Los Angeles based online store for a little while now, and if there is one thing I love more than the clothes, it’s shop creator Chanelle Lawrence’s vision when creating the ads.

The most recent one, titled, 1-800-Penelope, is fun to dance to and even more fun to watch closely and appreciate the ’90s essence.  I’m featuring it on Music Monday because I LOVE the song in video (Phoneline by FunkinEven) and overall I’m inspired by the video. I love the sexiness I love the ‘adult hotline’ aspect and I love the bodysuits! So, my friends, if you are in need of fashion help, CALL 1-800-Penelope.

Music Monday: {NEW} MGMT

Annnnd I’m back, again. I’m really going to try and stop with this whole inconsistent blogging thing. At the same time, I’m a working girl, and a girls gotta make that paper! Anyway, on to some sweet sounds to kick off your week. It’s hard to believe MGMT’s 2008 album Oracular Spectacular is already five years old. In my opinion, it was this album that really put this Mid-West duo on the musical map. Electric Feel and Kids were played all summer in 2008 and after playing the music festival scene,  Benjamin Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden were definitely music’s new favorite indie duo.

Fast forward to now and with two albums behind them, MGMT has a new single and a new album. Their third album, titled MGMT,  is “pushing their love of acid-tinged bubblegum right out the back door of the booby hatch, in a good way,” said Rolling Stone. This sound, is on the same level as their second album Congratulations, but turned up the weird and synth to about 100. I think I like it, I’m still a little indifferent, but I think I need some time to let it grow on me.

Mad for Plaid

“I like your Gwen Stefani pants” is probably one of the most flattering comments I’ve received wearing these plaid pants. I couldn’t have asked to be compared to a cooler fashion icon. All that aside, I’ve had these pants for about a week and I’ve worn them twice, needless to say, they’re going to be one of my fall favorites. Even more surprisingly, they’re from Forever 21 Plus.  I’m surprised because while I appreciate the effort Forever 21 puts into their plus size line,  sometimes they miss the mark. Also, they need a lot of  work on their fit of the plus size line. I had to go two sizes up to get the look I wanted to achieve with the pants, either way, they were a good find and they’re perfect for fall.

Pairing them with a fun graphic tee and a pair of sleek black pumps, balanced the look perfectly. I love these pumps from  Barefoot Tess, believe it or not, I did not have a pair of black pumps in my shoe collection and these are perfect and classic. I like the pointed toe, and I love the heel height, it’s about 2 inches, which is perfect for me. Just the right amount of heel height without sacrificing comfort. I’m all about shoes that kick my looks up a notch without killing my feet.

PS: So, I went darker a couple weeks ago and added some purple to my hair and I LOVE it!! I think it’s quite obvious I’m ready for fall. 😉

Bedroom Lace

Who doesn’t love a little lace in the bedroom? No matter if you’re married, in a relationship, or single, dress sexy for yourself. Dressing sexy for yourself also means having fun with lingerie. When you’re over a size 14, sometimes finding sexy lingerie can be a battle, as with clothes, some brands think by just making it bigger it will look flattering on a bigger girl. Wrong.

I’m grateful for brands like Seven ‘Till Midnight, who do plus size lingerie right, giving us sexy, cute options that appeal to every kind of girl. From leather to lace, to animal prints or for the bride-to-be, there is a sexy option for every kind of girl you are or want to be, because the truth is, we’ve got curves and rolls and why not show them off!

Seven ‘Till Midnight is based in Los Angeles and focus on making women of all shapes and sizes feel bold and confident in their fun, flirty lingerie and costumes. I was sent a HOT bustier and adorable pink lace underwear/garter. I loved how sexy I felt in both the bustier and garter. I have a pair of fishnets that went with the garter perfectly, I love how sexy and powerful I felt in the lingerie. The bustier wasn’t too constricting, but still gave me support up top. I love mixing textures, so the lace and leather-looking latex was a natural match, just the right amount of edginess without being cheesy. The garter was high waisted, which I loved, It made the look  vintage. I may have liked it a little more than the bustier, but I love how the bustier held me in and made me look extra curvy.

One of the things I really like about Seven ‘Till Midnight is there  cute, sexy and playful options for plus size girls. I know when it comes to fashion, we sometimes don’t have many options, but it was tough to choose just one bustier from Seven ‘Till Midnight!

Life is too short to not have a little fun in lingerie, trust me, it’s super empowering.

Music Monday: The XX

Ok, so, I know I’ve been a lagging on the blog, I never get too personal on here. I try to keep it fun, talking about the things I love, fashion, beauty and music. Things have been a little rocky, but that’s life, right? You can’t expect it to be all rainbows and flowers, it’s the crazy, bumpy moments that make you who are, in a weird way. Ok, I’ve been watching too much Girls, but seriously, life in your 20’s sucks sometimes, especially when you’re on your own. Although things haven’t been turbulent the last year, this last month really kicked my butt, but again, I’m back and I’m here to talk about what makes me happy.

I leave you with one of my favorite The XX songs, if you haven’t heard of them, listen to ALL of their songs now, you won’t regret it. I also leave you with a paraphrased Oprah quote, because I don’t care what anyone says, I think she’s AMAZING.

“Whenever you feel failure, don’t take it so negatively. It’s just the universe saying you should be somewhere else, doing something else.”

Back to School: College Edition

There are a lot of things I miss about college, meeting new people, new professors, classes, financial aid (haha!), I can go on. There is a feeling of excitement and eagerness on the first day, and throughout college I always put a lot of effort into my wardrobe. I was never ever one of those college students who showed up to class in sweats and flip-flops. Even during finals week and running on three hours of sleep, you never caught me in yoga pants, even when I was coming out of yoga.

This year, Macy’s had a tons of amazing back to college options, so you too can never be caught in sweats and flip-flops. 😉 The video is in Spanish, so to my English readers, here a breakdown of this seasons trends:

Cardigans are the perfect if your a preppy chic kind of girl, but depending on the print and color, a cardigan can be worked into any wardrobe. They’re comfortable and versatile, perfect if you need to run to an interview, internship or work after classes.

Flats are also comfortable and versatile pieces that will help get you from class to class with ease. Better than flip-flops, right?

Blazers are a must. No matter your major, you’d be surprise how many presentations you give during college, a blazer is perfect and effortless in giving a professional look to any outfit. A striped one is a great option versus a solid black one, because after the presentation, you’re headed straight to happy hour.

———————————————————–

Music Monday: ‘N Sync

nsync_s01

After last night’s MTV VMAs, there was an array of artists that would have been appropriate for Music Monday. Lady Gaga, Robin Thicke, Kanye, Drake were all on my list, but I had to go with the performance that made me feel like I was 13 years old again, ‘N SYNC!!! There were rumors all week about the boy band reuniting at this years show and when the rumors were confirmed, it instantly became the part of the show I was looking forward to.  Although the performance was shorter than I was expecting, it did not stop my from yelling, jumping and even crying a little bit.

Yes, I love Robin Thicke, Gaga, Rihanna, Daft Punk to death, but nothing can replace my teeny-bobber, boy band days. Here’s to hoping, although I doubt, that ‘N Sync will go on a reunion tour!

The one that started it all.

One of my favorites!

Eye Candy

To all the ladies who have sported glasses ever since they can remember and to recent glasses wearers, this is for you. Me? I’ve needed glasses since I was 11 years old and I remember feeling self conscious about wearing them, but now, I love wearing glasses. They make me feel just a bit more chic and like shoes, a girl who wears glasses needs options! One for every mood, outfit, and vibe.

I discovered Coastal.com a little over a year ago and was in awe by their selection of trendy frames for a fashionista on a budget. They have a great designer frames too, which we all love, but it was their Coastal brand that I gravitated towards. Having 2-3 frames in my arsenal gives me options, like shoes, the right pair of frames can change a look and bring it together.

The Derek Cardigan cat-eye frames are my go-to glasses when I want a retro feel to my outfits, they’re my play glasses and although I was worried they wouldn’t fit my face, using Coastal.com’s ‘Try On View’, I uploaded a photo of myself and saw they were a perfect match.

The Rootbeer frames, also from Derek Cardigan, have quickly become my everyday frames. The neutral brown color goes well with my hair color and are a great color to soften the face. I love black frames, but for a softer look with with a brown or peach color.

One of my favorite things about Coastal.com is that the give back to the world. When a pair of glasses are purchased, you are supporting the Change the View Project which gives sight, health, and protection to those who are less fortunate. To date, Coastal.com has helped over 300,000 worldwide by giving eyeglasses to children and adults who cannot afford corrective vision and protecting the eyes of people who are exposed to the damaging UV rays of the sun by providing 100% UV protective eyewear. You gotta love a brand that gives back.

Instadiary: H2O Music Festival + Becky G Meet & Greet

A few weeks ago, thanks to COVERGIRL, I attended Univisions H2O Music Festival in downtown LA with my fellow Latina beauty bloggers and had the BEST time! The line-up was a mix of English and Spanish artists that included Pitbull, A Tribe Called Quest and COVERGIRL’s newest face, Becky G. There were many more, but I was most excited to see those three. Although I’m a new Becky G fan, I can help but admire the 16-year-old Mexican-American from the Los Angeles area (Inglewood). I was able to meet her at the COVERGIRL tent and I was only able to exchange a few words with her, but she seems like a very humble down to earth girl. I think having her as the new COVERGIRL with really open up their demographic.

It was no surprise her makeup looks flawless (being a COVERGIRL and all, haha) and here I have how you can recreate her look! I loveed the light and natural festival look she was rocking. A great look for what left of summer.

Becky G’s look was inspired by the city of Los Angeles, where she grew up and calls home. The city inspires her lyrics and cool beats, but most of all her style. The young COVERGIRL is known for her urban and fun style, and that was the inspiration behind the GLAM makeup she rocked for her performance at the H20 Music Festival.  Her look consisted of bold gold eyes and soft pink lips that pop!

How to Recreate the look COVERGIRL Becky G, Rocked at Univision’s H20 Music Festival

Face

Start out by applying COVERGIRL Clean Whipped Crème Foundation. To accent the cheek bones apply COVERGIRL Clean Glow Blush in Roses #100.

Eyes

Apply the COVERGIRL Flamed Out Shadow Pots in Charcoal # 335 around the crest. Then use the Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in Gold Flame #330 to add gold shimmer to the look. Then apply the Ink It! in Black Ink # 230 by making a thick line that will make your eye pop! Finish this eye look by adding volume to your eyelashes for a bold look, with Flamed Out Mascara in Very Black

Lips

Finish the look with a soft nude, pinkish lip with first applying COVERGIRL Lip Perfection in Spellbound #325 and then the COVERGIRL Smoochies in Sweet Tweet # 255 on top.
