{Style} Leather + Lace

As summer slowly comes to a close, I’m finding myself slipping into more fall inspired looks. Technically the first day of fall isn’t for a couple more weeks, but why not start airing out your fall clothes and adding a few new pieces. Adding new pieces to your wardrobe, no matter the season, is exciting, but can leave a dent in your wallet. This is why I always enjoy being introduced to affordable plus size brands. Pink Basis is an online shop that has standard sizes, plus size and accessories. They have a huge selection of killer heels, but plenty of boots and booties for fall. Pink Basis’ plus size section goes from 1x to 3x which roughly translate to 14/16 to 22/24. They have a good mix of items between party dresses to casual wear, even corsets and bedroom wear. Which kind of sums up my plans for the next few months. I have the one year anniversary with my boyfriend and a girls trip to Vegas! I highly suggest checking out the site especially during their amazing sale. Fashion doesn’t always have to cost an arm and a leg, it’s about finding what works for you.

{Style} All Floral Everything

I love a good floral print and they can be hard to come by, it’s true! Not all floral prints are created equal, so when I found this marigold floral maxi dress at Forever 21, I knew I had to have it. I love the natural waistline on this dress, it’s comfortable and flattering, but what surprised me the most about this marigold maxi dress was how much I loved the halter neckline. I’ve stayed away from halter necklines for a long, long time thinking they were’t flattering for plus size women, but I was proved wrong and I’m glad I was. I’ve worn this dress to work, date night and the farmers market, needless to say it’s super easy to take it from day to night.

Ladies, don’t forget, time and time again, don’t be afraid to try new styles! Wear what you want, own it and don’t limit your style options.

{News} Hello Again.

It’s been a little shy of a year since I’ve posted on the blog. A few things have happened which led to my lack of blogging. I started a new chapter in my career as a marketing coordinator + social media coordinator for a cosmetics company, I fell in love with an amazing person who I now live with and overall, I’ve been focusing more on meditating as a approached my late 20’s. Let me tell you, approaching my late 20’s, I’ve learn and realized a few things. One thing I realized was that for the first time, I wish I was younger and had “more time” to do things. Not SUPER young, but 24 specifically. It’s taking a lot for me to admit that, but in all, I can’t complain. I’ve learned friends come and go, but it’s the ones who are there those dark nights that you keep forever.

Me and my boo thang

I’m in a happy place right now and I felt the one thing that was missing was making the time to blog. I miss taking photos, I miss writing about all my favorite things, but more than anything, I just missed writing. So, here I am, again in the blogging world sharing my plus size style and my love for beauty+cosmetics and decor. My readership and following is still growing and I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes and sharing my blog with new people. After all, blogging isn’t about how big you are, it’s about making quality content and that is what I missed.

Some of my favorite shots from the last few months. Make sure you’re following me on Instagram!

Fun fact: My boyfriend is a chef!

Mad for Plaid

“I like your Gwen Stefani pants” is probably one of the most flattering comments I’ve received wearing these plaid pants. I couldn’t have asked to be compared to a cooler fashion icon. All that aside, I’ve had these pants for about a week and I’ve worn them twice, needless to say, they’re going to be one of my fall favorites. Even more surprisingly, they’re from Forever 21 Plus.  I’m surprised because while I appreciate the effort Forever 21 puts into their plus size line,  sometimes they miss the mark. Also, they need a lot of  work on their fit of the plus size line. I had to go two sizes up to get the look I wanted to achieve with the pants, either way, they were a good find and they’re perfect for fall.

Pairing them with a fun graphic tee and a pair of sleek black pumps, balanced the look perfectly. I love these pumps from  Barefoot Tess, believe it or not, I did not have a pair of black pumps in my shoe collection and these are perfect and classic. I like the pointed toe, and I love the heel height, it’s about 2 inches, which is perfect for me. Just the right amount of heel height without sacrificing comfort. I’m all about shoes that kick my looks up a notch without killing my feet.

PS: So, I went darker a couple weeks ago and added some purple to my hair and I LOVE it!! I think it’s quite obvious I’m ready for fall. 😉

Ever since I blogged about the metallic shoe trend, I’ve been obsessed with metallics. Shoes, handbag and clothes, maybe it’s the ’90s girl in me, but I’m digging this trend across all boards. Needless to say, when I saw these flats from Barefoot Tess, I was stoked to style them. Tess Russell, who is behind the online shoe store Barefoot Tess, is a 20-something-year old who gives women above a size 10  (sizes 11-15) in shoes the option to have current, trendy shoe options. I love this idea because I’m a 10.5 to 11 in shoes and I have wide feet. My sister is a 11 or 12 and she hates shoe shopping, but after I told her about Barefoot Tess, I could see her face light up.

The shoes I’m wearing are the Adelaide and their from Barefoot Tess brand, their store line has tons of styles, kitten heels, sandals, loafers, flats, any and every style you can imagine. They’re super comfortable and I love the pointed toe, I felt like styling them with a ’90s inspired daisy dress seemed appropriate.  The store doesn’t stop at their BFT line, they have other brands in the shop like Jeffery Campbell, Steve Madden, Dolce Vita and Blowfish, SO many options!

It’s about style, and style shouldn’t stop at size 10 in shoes or a size 8 in clothes.

Side note: I think I want to change the color of my hair, I feel like this one isn’t doing it for me anymore.

Instant Crush

Earlier this year, I discovered Los Angeles jewelry designer Jenny Dayco, I’ve worn her designs on my blog a few times (here and here) and she’s quickly become one of my favorite L.A. designers. Jenny has been very busy since we last chatted with her. Since February, she’s designed her Spring 2013 collection and most recently, designed amazing rings for Ke$ha’s Crazy Kids video.  Not only is she talented, but she’s a blast to be around.

A few weeks ago, Jenny introduced me to a talented Los Angeles apparel designer who just started venturing into the plus-size world and she is a forced to be reckoned with, because her designs and fit are what plus size women DREAM of. Deborah Viereck, behind the brand Viereck, in a native Angeleno and have been designing clothes for skinny women for years. Just a couple season ago, Viereck ventured into plus-size, a smart move given that most women in the U.S. are a 12/14. Within the first  couple seasons of designing plus-size, she caught the eye of Nordstorm and they started carrying her line. Her current line at Nordstorm also includes this gorgeous dress I borrowed.

The dress I’m wearing is her 2XL (sizes are 1XL, 2XL, 3XL) and it fits a little big, but when belted, looks great. The fit it what I’m crushing on, there are some many plus-size brands whose fit is just, weird and off, but Viereck’s is right on the money. The other thing I liked about the dress is the material, it’s light weight, iron free, but amazing quality. Perfect for plane rides or trips when you do not want to use the hotel iron.

Fusing premium fabrication, exquisite fit, and flattering silhouettes, Viereck constructs her garments with a costumer’s flair for the dramatic and a rock star sensibility. She is driven by a philosophy of edgy yet feminine sophistication, which is often how I describe my style, hence why she was an instant crush.

Mix & Match

Mixing prints can be a fashion challenge, but when executed well, can make a killer outfit.  My best advice, if you’re thinking about stepping out of your fashion comfort zone, is to start off with mixing up the classics, (like I did) enter polka dots and stripes. I added an acid wash denim jacket from Torrid to complete my textured look. From that point, mix and match to your hearts content, but don’t get too carried away, you don’t want to look like you got dressed in the dark.

There’s a list of staple items every girl, skinny or plus-size should have in her closet, the LBD, a blazer and one of my favorites, a denim jacket. Denim jackets can be worn through out the year, summer or fall and go great with an array of looks, from a sexy LBD, to high waisted shorts. I’ve worn this acid wash one from Torrid with denim skinny jeans, to these polka shorts, to an LBD–it gives my look this extra funky cool edge that I don’t mind.

Galaxy Alley

There is nothing like a good pair of printed leggings to amp up a wardrobe. Forget whatever rule you’ve heard about plus-size women encouraged not to wear bold prints, it’s complete nonsense.

I’m obsessed with my Torrid galaxy leggings, they’re comfortable and give my look the right amount of texture or should I say, space. 😉 They’re from Los Angeles brand, See You Monday and their sold exclusively to Torrid online. There’s a grey version too! And in case you hadn’t noticed, the galaxy and space print is everywhere right now, with tons of  brands like Romwe, ASOS, Rag&Bone and Sparkle & Fade (Urban Outfitters) coming out with galaxy dresses, pants and tops. After falling in love with these leggings, I wouldn’t mind a galaxy dress.

What are your thoughts on the galaxy trend? Would you rock a space print?

These studded boots became mine just before Coachella, where they made their debut, and I wear them all the time. I love the studded detail and the tiny, but perfect heel. They look perfect with everything and add a hint of edge to any femminine outfits. A girl needs a pair of studded boots in her closet. So, if you don’t have a pair, these ones are on sale right now. You’re welcome 🙂

Lookbook Love: Zelie For She

WHO says plus size girls can’t wear bandeau tops?! Thank the heavens for Zelie For She because I have been looking for high and low for a plus size bandeau top and when I tell people I want one, they look at me like I’m crazy. I’m guessing people are surprised a chubby girl wants to wear a sexy beandeau? Well, you shouldn’t, because I, like like any girl, wants to wear what’s trending and flirty.

I’m loving everything in the Zelie For She Made with Love collection, from at sexy sheer sets to the pop art, Roy Lichtenstein inspired tee shirt. The best part? Her items are SUPER affordable. Does it get any better?

I know bandeau tops may not be for every girl, plus size or not, but if you got it, flaunt it and don’t ever let anyone tell you that you’re not allowed to wear something.

This outfit reminds me of how I use to dress in high school. A band t-shirt paired with something femminine and girly. My style in high school was very eclectic and over the years has been redefined (I would hope so, seven years later!). However, sometimes I find myself incorporating past style elements into my current style. It happens!

I’ve gotten back into band tees and graphic tees after staying away for three years and thinking about it now, I have no idea why I did that! T-shirts are comfortable and it’s fun to pair them with clothing pieces you wouldn’t expect, like a maxi skirt or  a fun graphic print, like my bodycon skirt. I also like to add a little bling to my graphic tees to give them an extra pop.

How do you wear your graphic tee?
